My surroundings at the Ball Park

We went to the Diamondbacks Spring Training game yesterday and I barely watched the game. I am more interested in the people around me. To my right, a very elderly man, long, polyester pants, white dress shirt with a pocket; in the pocket a white cloth handkerchief. He has thick black dress socks. I can see them because he has removed his shoes..no surprise, it is 78 degrees and sunny. He is drinking an iced tea. He seems alone, but there is a very elderly woman, two seats over. She is wearing cobalt blue velour pants and a jacket…but I do not see them interact.

Behind me is a family, the father is drunk. He is upset that someone gave the little girl gum…he says ‘meet you at the morgue’ because he is saying she will die from swallowing the gum. To my front right is a Grandfather, Son and grandson. The grandson looks around 7 years old. All three have thick foam chair pads, presumably to protect the bum from the hot chair. Every time they stand up, they either have to hold on to them or they fall through the back of the seat to the ground. The boy is very concerned about this and grabs his and his dad’s each time they get up. The boy looks back to us and watches Ken dropping his peanut shells on the ground. He tells his Dad that the man behind him is dropping his peanut shells on the floor. His dad whispers something and he turns back around. His dad gets up to go get something. The boy tries to talk to his grandfather and he is very short with him, telling him to watch the game. On the other side of the boy are four guys, I guess them to be in their early 30’s. One guy has the crossword puzzle from the newspaper. He works on it for a while and then passes it to one of his friends. This went on the entire game. One guy has a huge ring on with diamonds. It says ‘World Series’ on it. I keep looking to see if I can get more info from the ring. I have Ken take a picture of the guy with his cell phone. I sent it to Justen to see if he recognizes him…thinking he may be a former Baseball player. It was a bad profile shot and Justen did not recognize him. I ask Ken to ask the guy if it is a World Series ring before he leaves. As he was getting up to leave, Ken asks him and he says it is a World Series ring for Arena Football. To my left was a couple…nothing interesting there. The Air show was going on nearby and we could see some of the activity which was cool. I don’t even know what the score was…we left in the 8th inning. Diamondbacks were losing…they looked terrible. Usually I do watch more of the game, but it was boring and my surroundings were more interesting.

35 Years ago today

Normally, one wouldn't be proud to say that at 17 I ran away from home and it was a good thing...but that's what I did 35 years ago today; and it was a good thing. It's a date to easily remember because of it being St Patrick's day. I still remember what I was wearing. Hopefully one day the adventure will be a book. I think about it each year and ponder the years that have passed so quickly.
But today, I had my friends (Annie, Bobbie, Denny (From Australia), Henna and Larry) over for a 'kind of Traditional Irish' dinner. I'm using all the traditional ingredients: corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, Irish soda bread, Guinness, but are changing up the prep. Here's what I prepared:

Corned Beef with Marmalade-Whiskey Glaze
Honey glazed carrots and onions
Martha Stewart's Cream cheese mashed potatoes

Buttered Cabbage
Irish soda bread

Denny is visiting from Australia. I hadn't seen her for over 4 years; it was good to see her. She is 82 and a few years ago she went tubing down the Salt River with us. It was quite an adventure and I am looking forward to her visit. Don't think we'll be tubing but I'm sure we'll create some memories.

Easter eggs...I hope

Bella is coming over tonight! She will be so excited to see her poppies. There must be a dozen flowers blooming; orange and yellow. We will go to Uncle Don's for a bit so she can feed the birds and they can enjoy her company. Aunt Loraine is not doing too well and doesn't get out much. Elderly people really enjoy being around young people...and children don't shun the elderly...interesting. Then we plan on going out to eat. Then I plan to decorate Easter eggs with her. I hope she is interested and wants to do this. She is very artistic and almost 9 years old, so I think she will like it. In addition to dyeing the eggs, I am going to have glitter, felt, etc so she can use her imagination. I will share our creations later!

.....so here are the pictures of our Easter eggs. Bella wasn't excited as I thought she would be; I think she was kind of bored. She was more interested in seeing if her bugs were still alive from when she collected them two weeks ago and hanging out with Justen...which is a good thing.
