I had just had an eye check up; Ken was on the 3rd floor seeing a Gastro doc. I decided to wait in the lobby versus sitting outside in 104 temps. The glare from the sun would have been particularly annoying, as my eyes had been dilated. I was wearing funky, dark 'glasses' that resemble photographic film. As I took a seat, I immediately noticed a large women, sitting across from me, talking very loudly on her cell phone. I have to say, I really hate cell phones. I know, I know, that sounds so old fashioned. They are convenient and make communicating easy, but I long for the days where no one could reach you when you were out and about. I don't know, I just find it intrusive. And I think the worst part is everyone using them wherever you go; hearing other people's conversations. Being someone who loves to eavesdrop, you would think I would like it, but I don't. Maybe because I can't hear what the other person is saying......
Anyway, the lady ended her call and immediately began talking to me, telling me about her mishap. She was supposed to be at the Orange Grove location instead of Tangerine Rd and so she missed her appointment. I'm not sure how it began, but she started talking about her goats. She lives on 3.3 acres in Oracle and has 49 goats. For the next 30-40 minutes, I heard all there is to hear from a goat lovin' woman. She is writing a book on goat behavior because no one really understands goat behavior the way she does. Goats are so misunderstood. They are kind, smart, establish societies and clans and they do not stink! She tears up as she speaks of her goats. She has a lot of anger because the county is trying to stop her from raising the goats...they say she has too many. She argues, if they were cows, she would be left alone...there is a real prejudice against goats. And, did I know that cows are one of the main causes of global warming? It is a good thing I had the 'glasses' on; hopefully they hid my expressions. I decided not to get in to a conversation with her, only wishing for Ken to hurry up. I thought about going outside in the heat and glaring sun after she told me she has two favorite goats who live in the house with her, wear depends and sleep with her, her two dogs and two cats---all in the same bed!
Finally Ken came, I quickly got up, said goodbye and left. Wow!
