OK, this is not something most people would blog about, but I think it's important. Friday, I had a colonoscopy. I get one every 5 years because my dad had bowel cancer. Everyone should have one. Unfortunately, most insurance companies will not pay for one until age 50 unless there is a family history. I was able to get one at at 46, after my dad was diagnosed. Katie Couric's husband died at age 42. If he'd had a colonoscopy at age 40, he would likely be alive today. So...don't delay, get one. Mine was perfect...the doc told Ken, if you ever call your wife an asshole, you now must call her a perfect asshole! Our GI doc is kind of corny; an older guy who I really like. The whole procedure is not that bad. The worst part is the prep the day before. I did not eat for 29 hours before the test. When you are finally in the GI room, they give you Propanol, the drug Michael Jackson presumably died from. The staff now calls the drug, the "Jackson 6". I have been taking it easy since then, it kind of wipes you out.
This morning we met Annie and Bobbie for breakfast at "Sunnyside". Annie told a story....she has been having trouble with her glasses. Before she went on vacation, she got a new pair (from Sears). The prescription was wrong from the start. She took them back twice and they still were not right. So she had to wear her old ones while on her trip. When she got back, she returned them and said she would go someplace else. She decided to go to JC Penney. When she got there, the Doctor who had seen her at Sears was now at JC Penny and once again he was examining her eyes! What's the chances of that happening? She got her new glasses and she had ordered them with some kind of glare prevention film on them. That would be great for the sun here in Tucson, if they didn't have air bubbles. So...once again she is wearing her old ones.
She gave me a beautiful Adenium plant, also known as a Desert Rose, originating from the hot dry regions of Africa. I had admired hers in her backyard so she bought me one. That's the type of person she is; always listening, observing, so she can make you happy.
Watching baseball now..Yankees and Red Sox. Doesn't get much better than these two teams.
